Stickies! is a pad of electronic notes that is designed to mimic the classic yellow notes that adorn every cubicle in the known universe. Once started, a small icon is displayed in the system tray, from which the main menu can be accessed by right-clicking on the icon. Select 'New Note' from the menu to create a new note, or double-click the left button on the system tray icon. To hide a note, left-click on the 'x' on the note's title bar, or select 'Hide All' from the menu.

Individual notes can be formatted—or have their color and title changed—by right- clicking anywhere in the note's body. To permanently delete a note, click on the trash can icon in the note's title bar. To delete all the notes, select 'Trash All' from the menu.

Lastly…please don't use Stickies! to store your password.

Mini-FAQ

Q: How do I save my sticky notes?
A: Notes are automatically saved to the file \My Documents\Stickies.dat, and are restored to their current state when the application is started. You don't need to save or load them individually.

Q: Where did all my sticky notes go?
A: Did you hide them? Selecting 'Show > All' from the main menu should bring them back.

Q: Are sticky notes limited to just text?
A: Each sticky note uses what Microsoft calls "Rich Edit text", which means that you can cut and paste pictures, hyperlinks, and similar items. Your mileage may vary, depending on which version of Windows™ or Internet Explorer™ you are using.

Q: What does the thumbtack thingy do?
A: If you "pin" a note by clicking on the thumbtack, it won't be hidden by the "Hide All" menu command. Clicking on the 'x' in the note's title bar will still hide it, though.

Q: What does the 'Show > Recent' menu command do?
A: It shows the last three (3) notes you changed. I often select 'Hide All' then Show > Recent' to hide all the notes except the last ones I edited.

Q: Is Stickies really free?
A: Yup. Besides, any money I could make from selling it wouldn't even begin to cover the legal expenses of being sued for copyright infringement by the makers of the product that inspired this software. If you like Stickies!, send me a note telling me what you like about it...or even better, make a donation using the PayPal button!

Q: Can I have a copy of the source code?
A: Nope.  Stickies may be freeware, but it is not open source.  As the sole developer, I have reserved all rights to the source code to myself.  So there.  If you would like to 'roll your own', I highly recommend the Code Project article Sticky Notes by Igor Vigdorchik.  This article inspired me to create Stickies, although none of the code from the article was used.
